Establishment of Paisley Abbey

1163

A priory was established in Paisley in 1163, which later became Paisley Abbey in 1245, serving as an important religious hub.



Death of Marjorie Bruce

1316

Marjorie Bruce, daughter of King Robert the Bruce, died near Paisley after a horse-riding accident. She is interred in Paisley Abbey, a site of great historical significance.

 

Burial of King Robert III

1406

King Robert III was buried in Paisley Abbey, which contains one of Scotland's few surviving royal monuments.


Burgh of barony status

1488

In 1488, James IV raised Paisley's status to Burgh of barony, enhancing its local governance.
